The Law Offices of Richard J. Foster

Richard Foster is an experienced attorney located in Orange County, CA.

He has represented clients in matters of business and commercial litigation, and he has extensive experience in drafting simple to complex business contracts. In the world of law, Richard’s success is well-known in the industry, and he has an “AV Preeminent” rating in the renowned Martindale-Hubbell legal directory.

As a graduate of Long Beach State University with a double major in Political Science and Rhetorical Theory, Richard Foster went on to attend the University of Southern California – Los Angeles to receive his Masters of Public Administration. During his time at UCLA, he cut his teeth and gained valuable information from his internships in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (Sacramento) and League of California Cities (Los Angeles).

From there, Richard Foster went to Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and received his Juris Doctor degree. He also served as a Staff Member of Loyola of Los Angeles Law Review, a position that allowed him to blend his passions for law, writing, and critical thinking into one. But well before the experience, internships, and hours of study, Richard Foster’s love for law truly began when he was still in high school. Having some family friends who were practitioners of law, Richard quickly grew to respect and admire the skill and passion it took to defend the innocent.

After college, Richard Foster worked at Lawler, Felix & Hall in Los Angeles, serving as an Associate in the second oldest law firm in all of LA. From there, he continued to progress in his career, gaining insight and respect from each firm he excelled in. Eventually, Richard sort of fell into the world of sports law, a happy accident that came by way of his successful handling of a lawsuit involving Tom Sneva – the 1983 Indy 500 champion.

“I have a Midwestern background. And sometimes that’s a bit different than what you find in LA.” – Richard J. Foster

Because of the good rapport he earned, it wasn’t long before he became the go-to attorney for protecting the image and name for a variety of professional athletes. In fact, Richard Foster represented about two dozen athletes who won medals in the Olympics.

But above his wit, intelligence, and determination to the job, what positions Richard Foster above his competition is his sense of ethics. “I have a Midwestern background.” Richard continues, “And sometimes that’s a bit different than what you find in LA.” Different? Sure. But beyond that, it’s something special, and it’s something that all of his clients agree on. Occasionally taking cases for free and working as a lawyer to help people is what, beyond his reputation as a successful attorney to big names and big people, the world will truly remember him for.

During his time at Long Beach State University, Richard Foster captain of the Varsity Water Polo team, helping lead the team to 4th place in the NCAA Championships. While not evident to him at the time, his experience in sports would turn out to be a direct foreshadowing of his future career as an attorney well-versed in the world of athlete image and name protection. In addition to all of this, Richard is an accomplished author. In 2008, Santa Monica Press published “Mark Spitz: The incredible Life of an Olympic Champion,” written by Richard Foster about the former competitive swimmer and nine-time Olympic champion.
